Testimonial: How SCP Cardiovasculaire de l’Est streamlined its organization thanks to the combination of SpeechLive and Dragon Medical One

After a major software failure, SCP Cardiovasculaire de l’Est modernized its medical transcription workflow with Philips SpeechLive and Dragon Medical One. The new cloud-based system enabled  faster, more accurate documentation, smoother coordination and significant time savings across the cardiology practice’s multiple sites.

A practice with a fast pace

SCP Cardiovasculaire de l’Est, based in In Nancy, Essey-lès-Nancy and Épinal, brings together 12 associate cardiologists and more than 37 medical secretaries across around ten sites.

Between consultations, interventions and patient follow-ups, the volume of medical reports to process each day is enormous.

Faced with the limitations of its previous transcription software and an increasingly time-consuming workflow, the organization chose Philips SpeechLive. This is a cloud-based solution for managing dictations and workflows which is further enhanced by the integration of Dragon Medical One (DMO) – “a migration that has already made secretaries’ work more fluid and improved overall coordination,” noted Séverine Boulon.

The turning point: an outdated model

Until the end of 2024, the teams had to rely on transcription software, complemented by outsourcing to a Paris-based company to handle workload peaks.

“This solution helped us avoid massive delays, but it was far from perfect,” summarized Séverine.

When the old system experienced a major bug, the team had to quickly find a suitable alternative. Very soon, SpeechLive stood out as the simplest and most compliant answer to their requirements.

A smooth transition to the cloud

Tested in the autumn, the cloud-based SpeechLive solution was quickly rolled out to all teams to manage dictations.

“We had to switch to SpeechLive immediately to replace the old software. Fortunately, the tool proved to be simple and intuitive,” explained Emmanuelle Bourau-Glisia, medical secretary and cardiology assistant.

Once this first step was completed, DMO came in to complement the setup as a medical speech recognition solution and delivered an additional boost in efficiency.

With her strong IT skills, Emmanuelle also acted as a point of contact within the team to facilitate adoption and fine-tune usage over time.

Tangible benefits from day one

In practice, the integration now allowed secretaries to directly access audio files and transcriptions, make real-time corrections and work more closely with physicians.

Dictaphones remained the preferred tool for recording reports, but some practitioners were already experimenting with the SpeechLive mobile app, which automatically sends dictations to the secure cloud.

For the secretarial teams, the benefits were clear: “For a five-minute dictation, the time spent can be reduced considerably!” emphasized Emmanuelle.

Beyond time savings, SpeechLive’s archiving and traceability features simplified daily management. Completed dictations could be found and corrected in just a few clicks, ensuring reliability and continuity of service.

Familiar habits preserved, stronger coordination

Although the transition required slight adaptation, particularly learning certain voice recognition commands such as “new line,” “comma,” or “period”, it went smoothly. Most practitioners continued to use their dictaphones, which provided reassurance.

“They are happy to keep their habits while benefiting from the advances in speech recognition,” said Séverine.

Now, both Séverine Boulon and Emmanuelle Bourau-Glisia advocate for doctors to widely adopt the SpeechLive mobile app, which simplifies file transfer even further.

“Today, the transition is behind us, and its advantages are visible every day. Going back? Impossible. Communication between us has become much more fluid and efficient,” concluded Emmanuelle.

In Summary

  • Challenge: An outdated and time-consuming dictation system.
  • Solution: Migration to Philips SpeechLive, followed by integration with Dragon Medical One.
  • Results: Time savings, improved coordination, ease of use and smooth adoption by medical teams.
