SpeechLive Legal AI Assistant

SpeechLive Legal is an AI powered legal documentation tool that transcribes spoken notes using a legal-specific model, helping legal professionals create accurate, structured document drafts from dictations and supporting files. The AI maps spoken content intelligently into legal templates, delivering auto-formatted drafts ready for review.

Quick Start: From audio to document

When you open a new dictation, the welcome screen "Your documents start here" offers three ways to begin. You can do them in any order.

Click one of the three tiles to get started:

  • Start with your voice — begins recording immediately.

  • Upload or drop an audio file — attach an existing audio file as the source (.mp3, .wav files are supported for now).

  • Choose or create a template — opens the Templates tab to pick a template before adding audio.

[Note]Note

When you start working with SpeechLive Legal for the first time, you will be asked to set your spoken language. You can change it at any time using the language dropdown in the upper right of the main panel.

The right panel contains four tabs you'll use throughout the workflow:

Tab

Purpose

AI chat

Chat with AI to create templates or edit documents

Sources

Attach supporting files to give AI more context

Templates

Choose from system or custom templates for document generation

Documents

View all document drafts generated from this dictation

Once you have audio and a template selected, click Generate in the AI chat tab to create your document.

Adding sources

You can attach supporting files in the Sources tab to give AI more context when generating your document. For best results, attach files that contain text, such as case notes, correspondence, or reference documents.

[Note]Note

Audio must be added (recorded or uploaded) first before supporting files can be attached in the Sources tab.

  • Record or upload an audio file.

  • Click the Sources tab in the right panel.

  • Drag and drop files into the panel, or click Browse to select them.

  • Select which files to include as sources - checked files will be used during generation.

[Note]Note

You can select up to 5 files as sources. Supported formats: .txt, .docx, .pdf, .jpeg, .png, .bmp, .heif.

Document generation

Once your audio is ready, select a template in the Templates tab and generate your document.

  • Click the Templates tab in the right panel.

  • Choose a template from the list, or ask the AI to create one — see Create a new template using AI.

  • Once audio and a template are both in place, click Generate.

  • The generated document opens in the editor and appears as a tab at the top of the main panel.

  • In the editor you can:

    • Manually edit the document text using the rich text toolbar (bold, italic, alignment, etc.). Changes are automatically saved.

    • Click Copy to copy the document text.

    • Click the Documents tab on the right to switch between all generated documents.

    • Click the AI chat tab to refine the document using natural language — see Edit a document using AI chat.

[Tip]Tip

You can generate multiple documents from the same dictation using different templates. Each generated document appears as a separate tab at the top and is listed in the Documents tab on the right.

Edit a document using AI chat

You can refine your generated document using natural language commands in the AI chat tab without manually editing the text.

  • With a generated document open, click the AI chat tab in the right panel.

  • Type your instruction, for example: "Rephrase the opening paragraph in a more formal tone", "Summarise the key points as a bullet list", or "Add a confidentiality clause after section 3".

    [Tip]Tip

You can also dictate your instructions directly into the AI chat input using the microphone button in the chat panel — no need to type.

  • The AI applies your requested changes to the document. Changes are automatically saved.

    [Caution]Caution

Always review AI-generated changes before finalising the document. The AI processes spoken facts but cannot verify them against external data or case law.

Export a generated document

You can export generated documents to share or use them outside SpeechLive Legal.

  • With a generated document open in the editor, click Export.

  • Choose your preferred format: .docx, .pdf, or .txt. You can also click Copy to copy the document text to your clipboard.

[Note]Note

Generated documents are also available in the SpeechLive Classic workflow in the “attachments” section.

Work with templates

Create a new template using AI

Instead of relying on system templates, you can create bespoke templates on demand using natural language.

  • Click the Templates tab in the right panel.

  • In the AI chat input at the bottom, describe the template you need, for example: "Create a template for a client meeting note" or "Create a witness statement template".

  • The AI generates the document structure with appropriate sections and placeholders. Review the result.

  • Optionally, continue refining the template in the AI chat, for example: "Make the template shorter" or "Add a section for client contact details".

  • You can also edit the template manually. Use the ℹ menu in the template editor to see hints and guidance on editing placeholders.

  • Click Save to add the template to your personal library for future use.

Rename or delete a dictation

To rename: Click the pencil icon next to the dictation name at the top of the main panel and enter a new name.

To delete:

  • Hover over the dictation in the list on the left and click the three-dot menu button that appears.

  • Choose Delete and confirm by clicking Yes.

[Caution]Caution

You cannot recover deleted dictations!

Change the spoken language

You can change the spoken language for any dictation at any time.

Use the language dropdown in the upper right of the main panel to select the language you are dictating in.
