SpeechLive Help

Vocabulary

You can add your own words to the vocabulary, creating your own personal lexicon when using SpeechLive's real-time speech recognition. This allows you to add specific legal terminology, specialized industry phrasing, technical acronyms, and proper names you regularly use to ensure they are accurately recognized and transcribed.

Note

  • The vocabulary is synchronized automatically between your devices. Words you add or delete in the Desktop App, Web App, or Mobile App automatically sync across all platforms.

  • Words added to the vocabulary apply only to the current speech recognition language.

  • Vocabulary entries are supported for real-time speech recognition.

Add Words to the Vocabulary in the Desktop App
  1. In the SpeechLive Desktop App, click the Main menu icon (☰) in the top-left corner.

  2. Click Vocabulary to open the vocabulary panel.

  3. In the Add a word field, type the word or phrase you want to add.

  4. Press Enter on your keyboard or click Add.

  5. The newly added word appears in your vocabulary list and is immediately active for speech recognition.

Add Multiple Words in Bulk (Batch Addition)

If you have an existing glossary, list of legal terms, firm names, or partner surnames, you can add multiple words at once instead of typing them individually.

How to Add Words in Bulk:
  1. Prepare your list of terms separated by commas in any document, spreadsheet, or text editor.

Example: affidavit, certiorari, estoppel, indemnification, force majeure, Apex Legal LLP

  2. In the SpeechLive Desktop App, click the Main menu icon (☰) in the top-left corner.

  3. Click Vocabulary to open the vocabulary panel.

  4. Copy your comma-separated list and paste it directly into the Add a word field.

  5. Press Enter on your keyboard or click the Add button.

  6. SpeechLive automatically splits the list by commas and adds each word or multi-word term as an individual entry in your vocabulary.

Important

Important — Recommendations for Bulk Addition:

  • Batch size limit: It is recommended to add up to 50 words at a time in a single paste operation. If your glossary contains more words, divide it into smaller batches of up to 50 terms.

  • Overall vocabulary limit: SpeechLive supports up to 1,000 words in total per Speech recognition language.

  • Term limits: Each entry in the comma-separated list can contain a maximum of 50 characters and up to 5 words.

  • Case sensitivity: Vocabulary entries are strictly case-sensitive. Ensure acronyms, court names, and proper nouns are capitalized correctly in your list before pasting.

  • Language dependency: Bulk additions apply only to your active Speech recognition language. To add terms for another language, switch the language first and repeat the import.

Delete Words from the Vocabulary in the Desktop App
  1. Click the Main menu icon (☰) and open the Vocabulary section.

  2. In the list of added words, locate the entry you wish to remove.

  3. Click the delete icon (trash can or X) next to the word.

Note

It is not possible to directly edit words that have already been added. To correct a misspelling or change capitalization, delete the existing entry and add the new version manually.

Rule / Recommendation

Guidance

Capacity limit

Up to 1.000 terms per language.

Recommended batch size

We recommend adding up to 50 words at a time when manually building your list.

Term length

Each individual defined term can contain a maximum of 50 characters and up to 5 words.

Case sensitivity

The vocabulary is strictly case sensitive. Enter proper nouns, firm names, and acronyms with the exact capitalization desired in your final document.

Written form only

Only enter the written form of the word. You do not need to provide phonetic transcriptions or pronunciations — the speech recognition engine deducts pronunciation automatically.

Focus on regular domain terms

Add frequently used legal concepts, statutory terms, corporate entity names, and recurring partner or counsel names.

Avoid one-time matter names

Do not add client names for one-time matters or occasional files. These quickly clutter your vocabulary limit without ongoing benefit.

No abbreviation expansions

Do not add words where you want spoken shorthand to expand into a different written form (e.g. speaking "NDA" and expecting "Non-Disclosure Agreement"). Use Replacements for text expansions.
